March 2008 A message from the Prez ...
For those who missed the February 13th meeting, we had a good laugh and a chilly room to celebrate our planned SUNNY adventure. Our guest speaker, Vince Fazio, was headed to the airport to come see us, and due to extreme weather...SNOW...found himself turning around and going back home. A quick shuffle of emails ensued and our own Mark Ruberry stepped in capably to fill his shoes for our meeting. Thank you so much Mark! Refer to our website for a set of the presentation materials. And please remind me again how we are all being adversely affected by global warming.....brrrrr. ADVERTISING..... Recently the board has been approached by our members with requests to inform our membership of iSeries job openings they'd like to fill. While this is something we would usually handle by word of mouth we feel the membership would be better served by having members use one of their perks of membership...advertising in our newsletter.... to get their word out. Watch future newsletters for these advertisements. I encourage all members to consider using this perk. Do you have equipment or supplies you need to "rehome"? Thinking of buying a new piece of hardware or software and want to get some feedback from fellow members? Are you a contractor looking for more work? Looking for someone to share a ride to a meeting or a room at Common or a technical conference? We reserve the right to edit or reject your ads (keep them short). Any questions, contact myself or Steve Haas (PMSA membership and newsletter guru). PMSA MARCH EVENT....The MARCH 13th PMSA event will be a half day training seminar on SECURITY. We will be holding this event in Kent at the West Coast Paper Company training facility. Registration starts at 11:30, lunch is at 12:00 and the seminar starts at 12:30-4:30 pm. Instructions to the facility are provided, parking is free, lunch is free, the event is free, the class materials are free. Many thanks to MSI for providing PMSA with our seminar trainer, ROBIN TATAM, on the topic of SECURITY this month. Thank you also to Jamie and West Coast Paper Company for offering their training facility in Kent for our use for this training. Free lunch, Free book, and 4 hours of boot camp security training for FREE to members and guests. You know what this training is worth...and it's coming to your own backyard for FREE. We need to limit the number of seats in the class, so jump on this one now to make sure your space is reserved. Register through the website (or email me) and make your lunch selections. Be sure to bring as many as you can spare from your shop, or pass the word to them if you can't make it. This opportunity for FREE SECURITY training won't be repeated in our area again. Upon completion of this seminar, PMSA will mail to the address of your choosing, a certificate of completion...suitable for framing and impressing your boss. Along with the book and certificate, you will certainly own considerable bragging rights to all those in your shop who didn't attend! This is going to be a big event for our group, I already have folks who've registered as far back as January. And while you don't have to be a member YES, YOU MUST REGISTER so we can assure class materials, books, seating and lunches for you. Registration will begin at 11:30 and the DOOR WILL BE CLOSED by 12:30 to start the program. Don't be late! Driving and parking directions to the West Coast Paper Company facility will be provided when you register for the event. Registration cutoff will be March 11th at 7pm. Unless there is a cancellation, anyone wanting to register after time will need to go on the waiting list. If you register and find you can't make it, please call my cell 253.377.1675 or email me lark6@yahoo.com so we can fill your seat with someone on the waiting list for this limited seating event. We have an event flyer with a description of all that Robin will be covering in this seminar, be sure to check it out and REGISTER EARLY! See you there! |
