A message from the Prez ...

Happy April showers, everyone!

Oh wait! It’s May! But how would anyone know?

They tell us that summer’s just about here (really!), and that means that it’s time for our last PMSA meeting before our two-month summer break.

If you read the announcements, you know the new Power 7 hardware is cool – but we i folks just want to keep the business running, and that takes data and the tools to manage it. What’s coming up for us?

IBM i 7.1 for Power! That’s what!

There is some really spiffy stuff in 7.1, whether you’re a programmer or administrator or businessperson. So this month, we’ve asked IBM’s Doug Mack, a long-time friend of PMSA, to give us the rundown on the DB2 7.1 announcements (along with a reminder of what came in version 6, for those of us who aren’t there, or who are there and haven’t read the announcement literature). Just one 7.1 example: how about XML stored in DB2, queried/added/changed/deleted by SQL? Neat stuff! Come and learn more!

ELECTIONS THIS MONTH! PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO SERVE ON THE BOARD!

Please contact me, or any board member, and volunteer to do your part to support YOUR user group! We all enjoy serving the user community, but we’re happy to share the opportunities! It really doesn’t take much time, and it’s a great way to network and give back to the community that has been part of our livelihood, in some cases, for decades.

We are ALWAYS looking for input from the group about future meeting topics or speakers – including our June meeting. Do YOU have something you’ve learned, that you would like to share with the group? Do you have questions you would like researched and presented? And we do have the funds to import famous-name speakers. Please send me your suggestions!

See you our normal meeting place/time on June 10th!

Michael Regan
PMSA President
